St. Paul Public Schools will not transition students to hybrid learning at this time

The St. Paul Public Schools announced on Friday that St. Paul schools will not start the next transition to hybrid learning for students.

According to a release, after careful consideration using local data about COVID-19 and readiness targets, SPPS decided not to transition students in stage two to hybrid learning.

Stage 2 includes:

• All PreK-2 including special education
• Montessori E1
• Early Childhood Special Education Program
• Birth-PreK Special Education Program
• Federal III K-12 Autism
• DCD Specialized Classrooms

SPPS stated that prioritizing students’ and staff’s health needs is the first guiding principle for planning to reopen schools.

The release stated that transitioning students to stage 2 will continue to be guided by the readiness targets. SPPS will reevaluate the targets weekly to ensure students and staff can return to hybrid learning as quickly and safely.

The readiness target will be reevaluated on Oct. 30 to see if students can transition to stage two. If passed, Nov. 3 will be the start date for hybrid learning.
