Social Security offices closing in-person service due to COVID-19 outbreak

All local Social Security Administration (SSA) offices closed to the public for in-person services beginning Tuesday, March 17, due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

SSA offices will still provide services and will make certain exceptions for specific dire need situations, but officers encourage people to conduct as much business online as possible at www.socialsecurity.gov.

If you can’t complete your business online, you can call the national SSA number at 1-800-772-1213.

For critical issues, SSA said people can contact local offices directly by calling them. You can find the phone number for your local office here.

Those with in-office appointments already scheduled during the closure will be called to handle appointments over the phone.

SSA also warned the public to watch out for potential scams or people claiming to be from Social Security. The office reminded the public that they will never threaten anyone for any form of payment.
