Minnesota sees 9 additional COVID-19 deaths, total cases reach 7,234

Monday, the Minnesota Department of Health reported there are 571 new cases that have tested positive for COVID-19, creating a total of 7,234 cases in the state.
According to MDH, 428 total deaths have also been reported, with nine additional deaths reported Monday. Of the total deaths, 345 have occurred in long-term care or assisted living facilities, MDH reported.
The department stated, as of Monday, the state has completed 13,241 tests and private labs have completed 72,700 tests. Gov. Tim Walz had stated his goal was to test 5,000 people a day. From Sunday to Monday, 3,309 tests were conducted, according to MDH.
Of the total, 1,271 cases have required hospitalization. As of Monday, 396 were hospitalized, with 166 in the ICU.
According to MDH, 4,212 patients no longer need to be isolated. MDH is now reporting that the number of patients who no longer need isolation represents individuals with confirmed COVID-19 who no longer need to self-isolate, including those who have died.
According to the Johns Hopkins Center for Systems Science and Engineering, the virus has infected about 3.5 million people worldwide and killed about 247,840.
More than 1.1 million people worldwide have recovered as of Monday.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, patients with confirmed COVID-19 have mild to severe respiratory problems, with symptoms of fever, cough and shortness of breath. Some patients report having muscle aches, headache, sore throat, and/or chills and shaking.
