MDH says 8 new COVID-19 deaths in latest report, 45 new hospitalizations

Minnesota health officials on Friday reported eight more deaths related to COVID-19.

So far 1,753 people have died from COVID-19 in Minnesota, including 1,302 in long-term care or assisted living settings.

The Minnesota Department of Health also reported 45 new hospitalizations on Friday. So far, there have been a total of 6,064 hospitalizations, with 296 people currently in the hospital and 136 in intensive care units.

The department also reported 835 newly-reported cases that tested positive for COVID-19, pushing the total number of cases in the state to 68,133. The state reports that approximately 1,340,850 tests have been completed and approximately 1,041,537 people have been tested.

According to the Johns Hopkins Center for Systems Science and Engineering, the virus has infected more than 22.7 million people worldwide and killed about 794,721

More than 14.5 million people worldwide have recovered as of Thursday

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, patients with confirmed COVID-19 have mild to severe respiratory problems, with symptoms of fever, cough and shortness of breath. Some patients report having muscle aches, headache, sore throat, and/or chills and shaking.

Note: According to MDH – "Because all data are preliminary, the change in number of cumulative positive cases and deaths from one day to the next may not equal the newly reported cases or deaths."
