MDH reports 786 new COVID-19 cases and 23 new deaths
Thursday, the Minnesota Department of Health reported 786 new positive COVID-19 cases and 23 new deaths, pushing the state’s totals to 9,365 cases and 508 deaths.
Of the deaths, about 80% of them have come from long-term care facilities, which continues to be a focus for testing in the state.
The department stated, as of Thursday, the state has completed 14,061 tests and private labs have completed 83,360 tests.
Of the total cases, 1,459 have required hospitalization. As of Thursday, 435 were hospitalized, with 182 in intensive care.
According to MDH, 5,308 patients no longer need to be isolated. MDH is now reporting that the number of patients who no longer need isolation represents individuals with confirmed COVID-19 who no longer need to self-isolate, including those who have died.
According to the Johns Hopkins Center for Systems Science and Engineering, the virus has infected about 3.7 million people worldwide and killed about 264,000. About 1.2 million people worldwide have recovered as of Thursday.
