MDH reports 70 deaths, 2,705 new cases of COVID-19
The Minnesota Department of Health on Sunday reported 70 new deaths from COVID-19, bringing the state’s total to 4,850 since the start of the pandemic.
Of the newly reported deaths, 45 were in long-term care facilities. To date, 3,104 people in long-term care have died from COVID-19 in Minnesota, representing nearly two-thirds of all deaths from the virus in Minnesota.
The MDH also reported 2,705 new cases of COVID-19, 177 of which are noted as probable cases. So far 397,319 Minnesotans have tested positive for COVID-19.
To date, 20,547 COVID-19 patients have been hospitalized in Minnesota and 4,412 patients have been in the ICU.
A total of 369,912 patients have recovered or are recovering and no longer need isolation, according to MDH.
As of Sunday, 5.2 million COVID-19 tests have been completed in Minnesota.

According to the Johns Hopkins Center for Systems Science and Engineering, the virus has infected more than 76 million people worldwide and killed roughly 1.7 million people.
About 43.2 million people worldwide have recovered as of Sunday.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, patients with confirmed COVID-19 have mild to severe respiratory problems, with symptoms of fever, cough and shortness of breath. Some patients report a loss of smell and/or taste and having muscle aches, headache, sore throat, and/or chills and shaking.
Note: According to MDH – "Because all data are preliminary, the change in number of cumulative positive cases and deaths from one day to the next may not equal the newly reported cases or deaths."
