MDH: 8 new COVID-19 deaths, 41 new hospitalizations

Friday, the Minnesota Department of Health reported eight new deaths from COVID-19, as well as 41 more hospitalizations.

So far, 1,950 people have died of the coronavirus in Minnesota, including 1,414 in long-term care and assisted living facilities.

As of Friday, 250 patients were hospitalized with COVID-19 and 136 were in intensive care. To date, 7,091 COVID-19 patients have been hospitalized in Minnesota.

According to MDH, there were 1,009 newly reported positive COVID-19 tests in Minnesota on Friday, bringing the state’s total to 87,807 since pandemic record-keeping began.

A total of 80,221 patients have recovered, or are recovering, and no longer need isolation, according to MDH.

As of Friday, approximately 1.7 million tests have been completed in Minnesota and 1.2 million people have been tested.

According to the Johns Hopkins Center for Systems Science and Engineering, the virus has infected more than 30.2 million people worldwide and killed about 946,710 people.

About 20.5 million people worldwide have recovered as of Friday.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, patients with confirmed COVID-19 have mild to severe respiratory problems, with symptoms of fever, cough and shortness of breath. Some patients report having muscle aches, headache, sore throat, and/or chills and shaking.
