COVID-19 restrictions for bars, restaurants, health clubs and youth sports to go into effect Friday night

New restrictions to curb the COVID-19 pandemic announced by Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz are set to go into effect at 11:59 p.m. Friday.

Under the new restrictions, bars and restaurants will be limited to take-out and delivery service, and gyms and other indoor entertainment venues will close. Indoor and outdoor sports have also been suspended.

Social gatherings under the new restrictions will be limited to a single household.

The measures are set to expire on Dec. 18, however, they could be extended, according to Walz.

Among the businesses not affected by the new restrictions are hair salons, barbershops and retail stores. Places of worship, schools, dental offices and elective surgeries are also not limited further by the new restrictions. Outdoor recreation activities are still permitted as long as the participants are all from the same household.
