COVID-19 cases total 89 in Minnesota with 12 new cases, less testing being done
Thursday, the Minnesota Department of Health reported there are 12 new cases that have tested positive for COVID-19, creating a total of 89 cases.
Meanwhile, approximately 3,038 people have been tested in the state so far.
Counties with at least one positive test include: Anoka, Benton, Blue Earth, Carver, Dakota, Hennepin, Martin, Mower, Nicollet, Olmsted, Ramsey, Renville, Rice, Scott, Stearns, Waseca, Washington and Wright.
Four of the patients who tested positive are currently hospitalized.
Earlier this week, MDH announced updated guidance for testing due to a national shortage of laboratory testing materials.
According to the Johns Hopkins Center for Systems Science and Engineering, the virus has infected about 222,642 people worldwide and killed about 9,115.
More than 84,506 people have recovered so far. Additionally, Chinese authorities said Thursday that Wuhan and its surrounding province had no new cases to report. Wuhan was where the outbreak first took hold.

The COVID-19 illness causes mild or moderate symptoms in most people, but severe symptoms are more likely in the elderly or those with existing health problems. According to MDH, data suggests that 81 percent of the cases will be mild.
