Costco to implement new face mask requirement beginning Monday

Starting Monday, everyone will have to wear a face covering before entering a Costco store.

The company’s president and CEO, Craig Jelinek, says all members, guests and employees will have to wear a face mask or face shield to be granted entry to the store.

Costco has had a face mask policy since May but anyone claiming a medical condition was permitted inside the store without a face covering.

Beginning Monday, that will no longer be the case. The company said anyone who can’t wear a mask due to a medical condition must wear a face shield to enter its stores. Children under 2 years old will still be exempt.

"This updated policy may seem inconvenient to some, however we believe the added safety is worth any inconvenience. Our goal is to continue to provide a safe shopping environment for our members and guests, and to provide a safe work environment for our employees," Jelinek said.
