When it comes to Christmas trees, many are choosing fresh over fake this year.

For some, it may be a chance to create special memories and find a bright spot amid the toll of the pandemic.

Dave Hansen, whose family owns Hansen Tree Farm in Ramsey, says tree sales are up 25-30%.

"State parks, pumpkin patches, apple orchards, they’ve all been busy, so yeah, we were ready for it," he said.

One factor that could be spurring the surge in pine purchases: People are realizing they’ll actually be home this year to water and maintain a fresh-cut tree.
