Mall of America announces reopening of retail stores on June 1

Thursday, Mall of America announced it will reopen to the public on June 1.

On Wednesday, Gov. Tim Walz announced retail stores in Minnesota will be allowed to open up again on Monday, May 18. Mall of America is home to more than 175 small business owners in addition to hundreds of national and global brands, according to a release.

By opening on June 1, MOA says it will allow them to continue creating the "safest environment possible for our team members, tenants and guests." The time in-between will also allow retail stores the time needed to rehire, train staff and prepare their individual stores with necessary cleaning, sanitization and safety measure implementations.

All dining and attractions will remain closed until further guidance from state officials is provided. Food establishments may still operate through curbside and delivery.

The Mall of America states throughout the past eight weeks, they have been working with state and national organizations to help identify and establish industry-wide reopening safety protocols. All of that includes:

• Social distancing signage,
• Redirecting foot traffic (specific doors for entering and exiting),
• Even more enhanced cleaning procedures,
• Modified operating hours,
• Limiting to 50% capacity,
• Reconfigured seating among many others.

It's important to note that while Mall of America will reopen at the listed date, not all retailers within the building will open. There may be many reasons as to why a retail store is not ready to open. Updates will be provided on the Mall of America website relating to retail stores opening back up.
