US prepared to face South American power Uruguay with its Copa America future hanging in the balance

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The U.S. is prepared to face South American power Uruguay on Monday night at Arrowhead Stadium with its future in the Copa America tournament hanging in the balance. The U.S. lost to Panama last week in a game in which it played nearly the entire way a man down. That left the Americans in a dire situation as it try to advance out of Group C play. The easiest route involves beating La Celeste, which is aiming for a record 16th Copa America title, and winning the goal-differential tiebreaker if Panama beats Bolivia. There are other scenarios in which the U.S. can survive, but all relative longshots and none of them appealing.
