Wisconsin father arrested, charged with first-degree reckless homicide after death of son

A western Wisconsin father is now in custody following the death of his 6-week-old son last month.

According to the Menomonie Police Department, 28-year-old Jonathan Scott Lucas, from Menomonie, has been arrested and charged with first-degree reckless homicide.

The Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office conducted an autopsy on the child, during which they indicated his manner of death was a homicide.

According to law enforcement, at about 11:36 p.m. Feb. 19, the Menomonie Police Department responded to the 2400 block of Fourth Avenue North on a report of a disorderly male.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found Lucas at the door of the residence and were directed inside the apartment to a 6-week-old male infant that didn’t have a pulse and wasn’t breathing.

The infant was taken to Red Cedar Mayo Clinic, where he was pronounced dead after further life-saving measures were unsuccessful.

Police said the investigation led to the arrest of Lucas on Monday. He was booked at Dunn County Jail.

The case remains under investigation.
