Frost advisory overnight before chilly Friday

We’re heading into the coldest stretch of autumn yet this weekend — that’s great news for sweaters lying dormant in your closet, but not as great for your garden.

Early Friday morning there’s a frost advisory for most of Minnesota, as well as a freeze warning for parts of west-central Minnesota and west-central Wisconsin. Sub-freezing temperatures could kill crops and sensitive vegetation, so take steps to protect vulnerable plants from the cold. Outdoor plumbing systems are at risk of bursting at cold temperatures, too, so make sure to cover pipes or let them drain.

During the day Friday, the high is only projected to get up to 49 degrees, according to KSTP Meteorologist Jonathan Yuhas. Expect a mix of clouds and sun and some light rain in the afternoon.

This weekend, highs are forecast to remain in the low 50s, with lows getting down to the mid-30s, Yuhas said. There’s a chance for scattered rain showers on Saturday, and Sunday looks to be sunny with some clouds.
