Albany man leads police on pursuit, crashes; in custody on felony drug charges

The Waite Park Police Department says a 33-year-old Albany man is in custody following a police pursuit and crash, and officers found a large quantity of methamphetamine on him.

According to police, on Wednesday at about 2:36 a.m., an officer witnessed what appeared to be a man driving "very erratically" on Third Street North. The motorcycle the suspect was driving was accelerating quickly, traveling at high speeds and running traffic lights without adequately stopping on several different roadways in the city. Police added that it isn’t clear if the motorcyclist even was aware the officer was following him.

As the officer was attempting to stop the suspect, he witnessed the motorcycle crash near the intersection of County Road 138 and 34th Avenue South in Waite Park.

Paul Jeffrey Heim was arrested at the scene. Authorities found a large quantity of methamphetamine on Heim. He was transported to St. Cloud Hospital and then to the Stearns County Jail.

Heim faces felony possession of narcotics and driving cancelled-IPS (inimical to public safety) charges.
