3 kayakers rescued from Cass County lake
Three girls were rescued from a lake in Cass County after their kayaks began taking on water.
The Cass County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded to Leech Lake at about 4:58 p.m. after learning three kayakers were caught in the wind and taking on water west of Minnesota Island. One of the girls was also reported to have been in the water.
Authorities responded and found the three juveniles, who were unable to paddle their partially submerged kayaks, the sheriff’s office said. One of the girls was in the water for several minutes.
The sheriff’s office said all three kayakers were wearing life jackets and were able to be rescued and taken to shore.
With the water temperature at 45 degrees at the time, the sheriff’s office credited the use of life jackets for the good outcome.
