Suspect arrested in connection to fatal Saturday night shooting in St. Paul, victim identified

The St. Paul Police Department has announced an arrest relating to a fatal shooting this past weekend in the city.
Police said 42-year-old Nicole Love Smith, of St. Paul, has been booked into Ramsey County Jail on suspicion of murder.

We’ve made an arrest Saturday nights deadly shooting on W. Stevens Street.
Nicole Love Smith, 42, of Saint Paul, was taken into custody yesterday at Saint Paul Police headquarters and booked into the Ramsey County Jail for suspicion of murder.
According to police, officers were called to the 70 block of West Stevens Street at about 9:30 p.m. on a report of a woman who had been shot. When police arrived at the scene, officers found a woman with an apparent gunshot wound. She was taken to a hospital where she was pronounced dead.
Police on Monday identified her as 44-year-old LaWanda Wade, of St. Paul.

While securing the scene, officers found another woman who had been shot in the arm. She was also taken to a hospital with injuries not considered to be life-threatening.
An investigation into the incident is active. It’s the 26th homicide of the year in St. Paul.
