National Guard helping at Austin assisted living home during COVID-19 outbreak

Members of the Minnesota National Guard are assisting at an Austin assisted living home as a number of COVID-19 cases have broken out at the facility.

According to Sacred Heart Care Center, five members of the National Guard are at the facility to help with resident care for up to two weeks.

"While we have had aid from Mayo, Mower County and some temporary staffing agencies, we needed to call in more emergency staffing," the skilled nursing facility said in a statement.

Sacred Heart said, as of Tuesday, there have been 17 confirmed cases at the facility. Ten of those cases are residents and seven are staff.

The residents that tested positive for COVID-19 are isolating from the rest of the community, and the staff is quarantining at home.
