Board of Animal Health: CWD confirmed in Houston County deer farm herd

Chronic wasting disease has been confirmed in a deer herd at a Houston County farm, according to the Minnesota Board of Animal Health.
The MBAH said a 2-year-old white-tailed doe tested positive after it died.
The herd is quarantining at this time.
DNR to change CWD sampling process during deer season due to COVID-19
The deer that tested positive was imported from a Winona County farm herd, which is also being quarantined. Some animals from the Houston County herd have been exported to one farm in Wisconsin in the past, according to MBAH.
At this time, the DNR is testing hunter-harvested wild deer in Houston County as a part of its CWD surveillance.
CWD is not known to naturally occur in other animals. The disease is fatal in deer and elk, and there are no known treatments or vaccines. Consuming infected meat is not advised.
