Brooklyn Center lifts overnight curfew

A curfew the city of Brooklyn Center issued as part of an emergency order Tuesday has lifted.

The curfew was in place from 11 p.m. Tuesday until 6 a.m. Wednesday.

The curfew did not apply to those traveling to and from work or religious services; to law enforcement; those seek medical care, emergency services, or fleeing danger; people experiencing homelessness; recognized members of community groups authorized by the city to provide aid; or to the media, according to the city.

"Our staff has been phenomenal in maintaining the critical work of city operations and supporting our residents as we navigate these challenging times. We have an excellent team of department leaders and staff of whom I am immensely proud," Mayor Mike Elliott said.

Individuals violating the order faced a $50 fine and misdemeanor charges.
