Victim identified in Minneapolis apartment fire

The man who was in grave condition from an apartment fire in the Whittier neighborhood of Minneapolis was identified on Sunday.

According to the Hennepin County Medical Examiner, Alan Matthew Olson, 59, of Minneapolis, died on Wednesday from his injuries. The manner of death is an accident.

On April 8, the Minneapolis Fire Department was called around 5:30 p.m. on the report of a fire in an apartment building on the 2800 block of Pleasant Avenue South.

When crews arrived, they entered an apartment unit on the third floor and found a stove on fire and Olson, who suffered burn injuries.

Firefighters were able to carry Olson out of the building.

Olson was transported to Hennepin Healthcare where he later died on Wednesday. No other injuries were reported.

According to the fire department, the apartment where the fire was located is uninhabitable.
