2 hurt in apparent shooting in downtown St. Paul

St. Paul and Metro Transit police were at the scene of a reported shooting Wednesday in downtown St. Paul.

Officers were called at about 11:20 a.m. on a report of a shooting in the area of Fifth and Cedar streets, Sgt. Mike Ernster, with the St. Paul Police Department, said.

Ernster said officers found two male victims in the skyway. Both suffered apparent gunshot wounds to the legs, but Ernster said their injuries were not considered to be life-threatening. Both were taken to Regions Hospital.

Ernster stated the victims told officers they had a verbal argument with other people outside before shots were fired. The victims said they then went inside, to the skyway level, where they were found by responding officers.

The incident remains under investigation, Ernster said, and those with any information are asked to call the department at 651-291-1111.
