MDH: 13 new COVID-19 deaths, 1,721 new cases

Friday, the Minnesota Department of Health reported 13 new deaths from COVID-19, as well as 1,721 newly reported positive COVID-19 tests.

Of the 1,721 newly reported cases, 28 were noted as probable cases, and 1,693 were confirmed cases, according to MDH.

So far, 2,314 people have died of the coronavirus in Minnesota. Twelve of those deaths are also listed as probable COVID-19 deaths.

To date, 9,338 COVID-19 patients have been hospitalized in Minnesota and 2,510 patients have been in the ICU.

According to MDH, the 1,721 newly reported positive COVID-19 tests in Minnesota on Friday moved the state’s total to 129,863 since pandemic record-keeping began.

A total of 352 probable cases have been reported since antigen testing began.

Meanwhile, a total of 114,679 patients have recovered, or are recovering, and no longer need isolation, according to MDH.

As of Friday, more than 2.6 million Minnesotans have been tested for COVID-19.

According to the Johns Hopkins Center for Systems Science and Engineering, the virus has infected more than 41.7 million people worldwide and killed over 1.1 million people.

More than 28.3 million people worldwide have recovered as of Friday.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, patients with confirmed COVID-19 have mild to severe respiratory problems, with symptoms of fever, cough and shortness of breath. Some patients report having muscle aches, headache, sore throat, and/or chills and shaking.
