A portion of Highway 36 in Lake Elmo reopened mid-morning Friday after being closed due to a fatal crash.

The stretch of highway was temporarily closed between Hilton Trail and Keats Avenue.

A spokesperson with the Minnesota State Patrol reports the crash was fatal and that it is under investigation.

According to the state patrol crash report, a semi truck with a side dump trailer was stopped in a cross over lane on Highway 36, facing north. A Honda Civic traveling east on the highway struck the back of the trailer, which was in the eastbound lanes of traffic.

Additional information on the crash has not yet been released.

Meanwhile, Meteorologist Jonathan Yuhas said light snow and freezing drizzle Friday created slippery road conditions throughout the metro.

Yuhas said mixed precipitation was expected to end by about 10 a.m., then a partly cloudy and windy day is expected.

Looking ahead, Yuhas said about 2-4 inches of snow could fall in the Twin Cities on Sunday.
