Self-described ‘Boogaloo Bois’ member charged with riot in connection with Twin Cities unrest in May

A 26-year-old man from Texas has been charged with rioting in connection with civil unrest that took place in the Twin Cities following the death of George Floyd.

According to the District of Minnesota division of the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Ivan Harrison Hunter was arrested Wednesday in San Antonio and made his first court appearance Thursday. He has been charged with one count of rioting.

According to a criminal complaint, the Federal Bureau of Investigation received information in late May that a group of individuals was discussing committing violent crimes and maintaining an armed presence in Minneapolis during the civil unrest following Floyd’s death.

The complaint states Hunter, who claimed to be a member of this group, known as the Boogaloo Bois, traveled from Texas to Minneapolis between May 27 and 28 "with the intent to participate in a riot," according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Video captured the night of May 28 reportedly shows Hunter discharging 13 rounds from an AK-47-style semi-automatic rifle into the Minneapolis Police Department’s Third Precinct building.

Upon returning to Texas, the complaint states, Hunter reportedly made statements on social media describing his actions in Minneapolis.

During a traffic stop in Austin, Texas, on June 3, Hunter was found to be in possession of six loaded magazines for an AK-47-style assault rifle attached to a tactical vest he was wearing. Officers also found three semi-automatic rifles and two loaded pistols in the vehicle that Hunter, along with two others, was occupying.

The case is being prosecuted by the National Security Division’s Counterterrorism Section.
