The breakfast cereal business is booming and it appears the pandemic is the reason why.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, boxes of the breakfast food have been flying off store shelves.

General Mills reported, from June through August, sales in the U.S. rose to $271 billion, including a 10% bump in cereal sales.

Post is also seeing continuous strong sales of their classic brands, including Malt-O-Meal.

"I don’t recall seeing big rushes on cereal like we’ve had," said Jim Almsted, owner of Almsted’s Fresh Market in Crystal. "Now that people are staying home and also not eating out as much, cereal sales have started to turn around and come back again."
