COVID-19 in Minnesota: 7 new deaths, 26 hospitalizations reported

Thursday, the Minnesota Department of Health reported seven new deaths from COVID-19, as well as 26 more hospitalizations.

So far, 1,837 people have died of the coronavirus in Minnesota, including 1,348 in long-term care and assisted living facilities.

As of Thursday, 272 patients were hospitalized with COVID-19 and 138 were in intensive care. To date, 6,592 patients have been hospitalized in Minnesota.

According to MDH, there were 1,047 newly reported positive COVID-19 tests in Minnesota on Thursday, bringing the state’s total to 78,123 since pandemic record-keeping began.

A total of 70,175 patients have recovered, or are recovering, and no longer need isolation, according to MDH.

As of Thursday, approximately 1,540,107 tests have been completed in Minnesota and 1,158,388 people have been tested.

According to the Johns Hopkins Center for Systems Science and Engineering, the virus has infected more than 26 million people worldwide and killed about 863,741 people.

More than 17.3 million people worldwide have recovered as of Thursday.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, patients with confirmed COVID-19 have mild to severe respiratory problems, with symptoms of fever, cough and shortness of breath. Some patients report having muscle aches, headache, sore throat, and/or chills and shaking.
