Task force seizes 156 illegal guns, 22 charged with federal crimes

The latest Twin Cities Violent Crime Task Force statistics were released Thursday night.
The Minnesota U.S. Attorney’s Office said the task force, which was formed in July in response to a spike in violent crime across the Twin Cities, has seized more than 156 illegal firearms in the past 60 days.

Additionally, the task force has led to 22 people being charged with federal crimes and at least 19 people charged in state court.
The task force includes federal agents and analysts from the FBI, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), the Secret Service, U.S. Marshals Service, Drug Enforcement Administration, Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA), Minneapolis and St. Paul police departments, and Hennepin, Ramsey and Dakota County sheriff’s offices, along with federal and state prosecutors.
