No injuries after sheriff’s deputies exchange fire with carjacking suspects
Two people have been arrested after exchanging gunfire with sheriff’s deputies during a pursuit Friday night in Beltrami County.
According to a news release, the Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a carjacking in Cass Lake in which one of the suspects threatened the car owner with a knife.
Around 9:30 p.m., a Beltrami County sheriff’s deputy spotted the stolen vehicle in Ten Lakes Township, Minnesota, north of Cass Lake. The sheriff’s office states that a pursuit ensued, and the people inside the stolen vehicle started shooting at the deputy, hitting his squad car. The deputy was not hurt.
Two deputies returned fire, and the suspect vehicle was disabled, the release stated.
The two suspects were arrested without further incident, and deputies recovered a handgun from the stolen vehicle, the sheriff’s office said.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is investigating the shooting, and the Cass County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the carjacking.
The two deputies who fired their guns are on standard administrative leave.
