Woman killed in Clearwater County stabbing, suspect in custody
One person is in custody and another is dead after a stabbing Monday night in Clearwater County.
The Clearwater County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded to a reported medical emergency at about 8:30 p.m. and another caller indicated there had been a dispute in the 14000 block of 336th Street in Bagley. Deputies and Bagley police officers made contact with the person, who then became uncooperative and fled.
As officers checked a neighboring home for the person, they heard a woman inside the home yelling, the sheriff’s office said. Officers then saw a struggle inside between the woman and the subject officers had previously encountered.
The sheriff’s office said officers entered the home and used a Taser on the man in an attempt to subdue him but he grabbed a knife and stabbed the woman before running away into a wooded area.
Officers provided first aid to the woman before she was taken to a hospital. However, she was pronounced dead at the hospital. The sheriff’s office later identified her as 53-year-old Dawn Louise Swenson, of rural Bagley.
After a several-hour search, the suspect, identified as 27-year-old Christopher James Colgrove, was taken into custody and transported to Clearwater County Jail. He’s expected to be charged with second-degree murder, according to the sheriff’s office.
