1 injured, 67 displaced by Maplewood apartment building fire
Dozens of people were displaced and one person was taken to a hospital after an apartment fire in Maplewood Thursday morning.
According to the city, firefighters received a call of smoke in an apartment on the 1500 block of County Road B East at 6:43 a.m.
When crews arrived at the scene, they found flames coming from a second-story apartment.
One resident was transported to a local hospital with injuries considered to be not life-threatening.
The city said 67 people from 32 units were displaced by the fire. The city is working with the Red Cross and area partners to relocate the residents.
The building was older and didn’t have a sprinkler system, but fire alarms and residents helped everyone evacuate, the city said.
Crews from six neighboring departments were called to help.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
