MDH reports 5 new deaths, 25 more hospitalizations

The Minnesota Department of Health on Tuesday reported five new deaths from COVID-19, as well as 25 more hospitalizations.

So far, 1,927 people have died from complications of the coronavirus in Minnesota, including 1,400 in long-term care and assisted living facilities.

As of Tuesday, 238 patients were hospitalized with COVID-19 and 131 patients were in intensive care. To date, 6,979 COVID-19 patients have been hospitalized in Minnesota.

According to MDH, there were 432 newly reported positive COVID-19 tests in Minnesota on Tuesday, bringing the state’s total to 85,351 since pandemic record-keeping began.

A total of 78,953 patients have recovered, or are recovering, and no longer need isolation, according to MDH.

MDH said, as of Tuesday, approximately 1,733,292 tests have been completed in Minnesota and 1,247,867 people have been tested.

According to the Johns Hopkins Center for Systems Science and Engineering, the virus has infected more than 29.3 million people worldwide and killed at least 929,444 people.

About 19.9 million people worldwide have recovered as of Tuesday.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, patients with confirmed COVID-19 have mild to severe respiratory problems, with symptoms of fever, cough and shortness of breath. Some patients report having muscle aches, headache, sore throat, and/or chills and shaking.
