McLeod County sheriff retires after 14 years following stroke
Tuesday, McLeod County Sheriff Scott Rehmann announced his retirement, having served as sheriff for 14 years.
Rehmann said he made the decision after suffering a stroke at the end of August. He said the stroke has affected his ability to perform the main functions of his job.
"In consultation with my doctors and with the recognition that I cannot physically perform the tasks required to serve as a law enforcement officer in your community, my retirement is both prudent and necessary," Rehmann wrote in a statement.
His last day as sheriff will be Sept. 22, and he has asked the county board to appoint Chief Deputy Timothy Langenfeld as sheriff for the remainder of his term.
"I am thankful to the people of McLeod County for their support and friendship in my position to serve as a peace officer in the community," Rehmann wrote.
