MSHSL asks health department to modify masking guidance for outdoor sports
The Minnesota State High School League is asking the state health department to modify guidance so athletes do not have to wear masks while competing in outdoor sports.
During Thursday’s state COVID-19 update, Minnesota Department of Health Commissioner Jan Malcolm said she was aware of the league’s request but had not been able to read it.
However, she did express reluctance toward the position.
"Even though outdoor activities are safer, encouraging masks," Malcolm said.
The MSHSL says under the proposed modified guidance, athletes would still have to wear a mask while on the sideline or in the dugout.
