Two people are reported dead following an exchange of gunfire in San Antonio, Texas Friday.

According to ABC affiliate KSAT-TV, a police officer, who was shot in the hand during the traffic stop, exchanged gunfire with another individual.

Police Chief William McManus, who stressed to KSAT that the information he was giving was preliminary, said he had a chance to review the officer’s body camera video.

The officer, a five-year veteran with the department, reportedly stopped a pickup occupied by three people just before noon.

McManus told KSAT the officer appeared to have a "casual conversation" with the driver for a few minutes before the driver pulled a gun and fired at the officer, hitting him once in the hand and once on his radio.

The officer opened fire as he retreated backward, McManus said, hitting and killing the driver and the passenger, KSAT reports. Both men are believed to be in their 20s, according to the report.

The third passenger, a woman, was shot in the torso and was taken to a nearby hospital, McManus told KSAT.
