Sheriff’s office: 23-year-old inmate dies after apparent suicide attempt

A Hennepin County Jail inmate died Thursday after an apparent suicide attempt last week, according to authorities.

According to the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office, deputies found the 23-year-old man unresponsive in his cell during routine checks at about 5:45 p.m. Friday. He was housed in a cell alone.

Deputies attempted CPR before the inmate was transported to a hospital. He remained in the hospital until his death Thursday.

The sheriff’s office said the man, who was not immediately identified publicly, was booked into the jail at about 1:45 p.m. Friday after being arrested on a felony probation violation.

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office will release the man’s cause of death and identity at a later time.

His death is under investigation by the county and will be reviewed by the Department of Corrections.
