Hayward man dies in Sawyer County bike crash

A Hayward man died Thursday afternoon in a bike crash.
According to the Sawyer County Sheriff’s Office, information regarding a bike crash was obtained from the Bayfield County Sheriff’s Office at about 1:40 p.m. The crash happened in Spider Lake, about a half-mile south of Camp 38 Road on a single-track bicycle lane.
When authorities arrived at the scene, they found 67-year-old Joseph A. Timmerman already dead.
The Sawyer County Sheriff’s Office said witnesses reported seeing Timmerman lose control of his bike while going over a jump in a rocky part of the trail. As he landed, Timmerman reportedly went over the handle bars and landed on his head.
The crash remains under investigation.
