Charges: Man smuggled heroin into Hennepin County jail that led to 3 overdoses

A Minneapolis man faces charges after he allegedly smuggled heroin into the Hennepin County Jail and provided it to three inmates who suffered non-fatal overdoses.

The Hennepin County Attorney’s Office says 33-year-old Eugene Olson faces one count of second-degree possession of heroin and second-degree sale of heroin.

According to a criminal complaint, on Wednesday, three inmates suffered from overdoses while in a court holding area.

The complaint says two of the inmates who overdosed said he thought he was taking Tylenol they received from another inmate.

Descriptions from witnesses led deputies to Olson, who was found to have six grams of heroin on him. The complaint says Olson told deputies the drugs were laced with fentanyl. The drugs that were recovered are being tested.
