Minneapolis man pleads guilty in connection to arson committed during May unrest
A 32-year-old Minneapolis man pleaded guilty to one count of arson that was committed during the unrest following the death of George Floyd in May.
The United States Attorney’s Office said Matthew Scott White was arrested and charged on June 29 in relation to the crime.
According to White’s guilty plea, on May 28, White entered an Enterprise Rent-A-Car building located in St. Paul. While inside the building, White and a juvenile accomplice started a fire inside a back office. White fueled the fire by throwing papers and other flammable items onto the flames.
On June 3, investigators with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) examined the scene and determined that the fire was caused by arson and originated from within the structure. The business was completely destroyed by the fire, documents say.
