Charges filed against 17-year-old in Menahga teen’s shooting death

A 17-year-old has been charged in connection to the shooting death of a teen in Menahga last week.

According to ABC affiliate WDAY, Logan Daniel Keranen is charged with third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter in the Sept. 18 death of Michael Robert Erickson.

WDAY reports that court documents say Keranen grabbed a shotgun from a safe in his home to show it off and the gun went off while Erickson was sleeping in a bed. An autopsy later determined Erickson died from a "contact" shotgun wound to the head, which is classified as a wound in which the firearm is placed directly against the skin when fired.

Erickson’s family has set up a GoFundMe account to help pay for costs related to his death.
