Minnesota Children’s Museum reopens with COVID-19 precautions in place

After months of being closed, the Minnesota Children’s Museum in St. Paul reopened Saturday.

The museum says the space is needed especially during the pandemic because play eases the effects of stress and anxiety for kids.

"We had a test day a couple days ago, and people were just thrilled and just really excited to be back. First young boy when we opened our doors came running in,” said Bob Ingrassia.

In preparation for the opening, museum staff have, among other measures, removed soft props and costumes to make sure they can sanitize everything. There are also new, upgraded air filters to also help monitor air flow. And there will be “wellness checks” on staff, every day.

"It is emotional and exciting to finally be able to open again, to see kids, hear kids and be able to have some fun,” Ingrassia said.

Tickets must be reserved ahead of time so that museum staff can make sure the place isn’t too crowded during the pandemic.

Staff is also encouraging families to check their health before entering, and to reschedule their visit for another day if anyone is sick.

The museum here is open from 9 to 5 p.m., Thursday through Sundays.
