Thunderstorms move into north-central Minnesota, western Wisconsin

A line of thunderstorms is making its way east through the Twin Cities and into other parts of the state on Wednesday, according to KSTP Meteorologist Jonathan Yuhas.

Storms reached the west metro and Mankato areas mid-morning and remained in the Twin Cities as well as southern and north-central Minnesota until the early afternoon.

Then, Yuhas said storms will continue in north-central Minnesota and western Wisconsin into the early evening hours.

The National Weather Service issued an alert for parts of Anoka, Benton, Isanti, Mille Lacs, Sherburne, Stearns and Wright counties, warning of strong thunderstorms.

Calmer weather is expected Thursday; aside from isolated thunderstorms in the morning and afternoon, Yuhas said the day will be mostly dry.

Friday morning and afternoon, severe thunderstorms with heavy rain and high winds will be possible in the Brainerd Lakes area and Alexandria, Yuhas said. Storms could move into the Twin Cities, St. Cloud, Mankato, Rochester and Eau Claire areas Friday evening into Saturday morning.
