Long-time Viking Everson Griffen on way to Dallas
Long-time Vikings pass rusher Everson Griffen is on his way to the Dallas Cowboys, a source confirms to KSTP Sports. The NFL Network was first to report the agreement.
A source told KSTP Sports last week that after not showing any interest in retaining Griffen going back months, the Vikings were open to a reunion. But even with nearly $13M in cap space, they weren’t willing to pay him much. However, a second source Wednesday night said, "Vikes made a competitive offer."
Bottom-line: Dallas pushed hardest for the 32-year-old. If Minnesota truly wanted to retain Griffen, they could have.
Griffen posted 41 tackles and eight sacks in his 10th season with the Vikings in 2019.
After being selected in the fourth round of the 2010, Griffen was a reserve for his first four seasons. He took over as a starter in 2014, and had 57 sacks over the next six seasons. Overall, he had 74 1/2 sacks in his Vikings career.
