Update: Man in crisis who barricaded himself in the Graduate Hotel taken into custody

UPDATE: The man who was in crisis and barricaded himself inside of a room at the Graduate Hotel in Minneapolis has been taken into custody. He was transported to a facility that will provide him the care he needs according to the Minneapolis police.


Police are dealing with a person who is barricaded in the Graduate Hotel in Minneapolis, Thursday afternoon.

In an update from the Minneapolis Police Department, officers with the University of Minnesota Police Department responded to the area at about 1:42 p.m., after receiving a report of an individual in crisis.

Officers reported attempting to make contact with the man in order to help him. The man refused to open the door, police said; officers said they secured the area and are speaking with him using different means.

According to an alert from the University of Minnesota Department of Public Safety, the public is urged to stay away from the area.

Additional information is expected to be released as it becomes available, police said.
