UPDATE: Man dies in Minneapolis shooting, no suspects at this time
The Minneapolis Police Department is investigating a shooting that left one man dead Tuesday morning.
According to police, troopers from the Minnesota State Patrol were in the area of E 46th Street and Hiawatha Avenue at about 12:23 a.m. when they heard multiple gunshots. The troopers notified their emergency communications center and responded to the area where the sounds came from.
At that time, Minneapolis Police officers were dispatched to the same area on a report of gunshots.
The troopers saw a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed in the area of E 46th Street and Snelling Avenue. They stopped the vehicle and found a woman driving with a man in the passenger seat suffering from gunshot wounds. The state troopers provided emergency medical aid to the victim until they were eventually relieved by paramedics.
The victim was transported to Hennepin Healthcare in grave condition at the time of the incident. The driver of the vehicle is not considered a suspect at this time, according to police.
As of 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, Minneapolis Police spokesperson John Elder said the victim has died.
The Minneapolis Police Department has taken over the homicide investigation as it is believed by them that the shooting happened in that area. The crime lab also responded to document the scene and collect evidence. Due to the severity of the injuries, a team from the department’s Homicide Unit responded and is heading up the investigation.
