Hundreds of families have received help through Free Fresh Food Fridays this Summer.

NorthPoint Health & Wellness Center offered the food distribution service after seeing the devastating impact of COVID-19 on families.

"One of the reasons why this is so important right now is due to COVID, we have people who lost their jobs, we have people that have a lot of food insecurity, so we just want to be there to help them to feel like they don’t have to worry about anything," said Loretta Arradondo with NorthPoint.

The food distribution event started back in July, and two days a month, Northpoint and other agencies offer a drive-thru service where families can pick up boxes of fresh produce and canned foods.

Volunteers load the cars up for community members in need, and besides how many people live in your home, no questions are asked.

Whether it’s MAD DADs setting up the event or Second Harvest Heartland providing the food, agencies across the region are pitching in.

"Wells Fargo understands that the community is having a hard time right now, and we wanted to show our support and really partner with some of our really close partners up in north Minneapolis… we also realize not everyone has access to transportation, so we are partnering with the Northside Achievement Zone to deliver boxes to 150 families in north Minneapolis that just can’t get here," said Deb Burke with Wells Fargo.

There will be two more events like this on Sept. 11 and 25. They start at 10 a.m. each day.
