2 men charged with arson of Wells Fargo in south Minneapolis

The United States Attorney’s Office stated on Friday that two men have been charged in connection to a fire set at a Wells Fargo in south Minneapolis during the civil unrest that broke out in May in response to the death of George Floyd.
According to a news release, Marc Bell Gonzales, 29, from Wayzata, and Alexander Steven Heil, 24, from Monticello, have been charged with one count each of conspiracy to commit arson. Their initial court appearances are expected at a later date.
The attorney’s office states on May 28, Gonzales and Heil joined and engaged with other individuals in conduct designed to accelerate a fire in the Wells Fargo Bank building located in south Minneapolis. Specifically, Gonzales poured gasoline onto the property for the purpose of accelerating the fire.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and FBI continue to urge the public to report suspected arson, use of explosive devices or violent, destructive acts associated with the recent unrest.
