12-year-old girl seriously injured in ATV crash in Freeborn County

A 12-year-old girl was transported to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester with life-threatening injuries Friday evening after an ATV rolled over and ejected three girls into a ditch.
According to the Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office, at 7:14 p.m., the sheriff’s office was notified of a four-wheeler crash with injuries on 120 Street west of Highway 69, north of Emmons.
The sheriff’s office said a 12-year-old girl was driving with two passengers, ages 8 and 13. The 12-year-old was driving eastbound when she turned left, causing the four-wheeler to roll into the north ditch.
All three girls were thrown off and landed in the ditch, said police.
According to police, the two passengers could not wake up the 12-year-old driver, so they walked to a neighbor’s house and got help.
A neighbor went to the crash site, found the 12-year-old unresponsive in the ditch and started to provide first aid until the first responders arrived.
The passengers were complaining of slight pain and were transported to the hospital by a parent to be checked out.
Once deputies arrived on the scene, Emmons first responders attended to the 12-year-old girl, who did have a pulse but was not responding to questions.
Mayo One helicopter was called to the scene and transported the 12-year-old girl to Rochester with life-threatening injuries.
No additional information was given. The crash is still under investigation by the Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office.
