A second heat advisory this week will go into effect Tuesday as temperatures are expected to remain high throughout the state.
Chief Morning Meteorologist Ken Barlow said Tuesday will be mostly sunny and humid, with a high of 90 degrees.
The National Weather Service issued a heat advisory for dozens of counties, stating heat index values from 95 to 100 degrees are expected Tuesday.
The advisory, in effect from 1-7 p.m., covers portions of central, east-central, south-central, southeast, southwest, west-central Minnesota and west-central Wisconsin.
The NWS advises drinking plenty of fluids, staying in air-conditioned rooms, staying out of the sun, and checking on family, friends and neighbors. Wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing when possible, the NWS advises.
Young children and pets should not be left unattended in vehicles during extreme heat, the NWS states.
Those who work outside should take precautions, including taking frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Additionally, the NWS advises rescheduling strenuous activities in the early morning or evening.
